All About Electrolysis
-
Electrolysis is a practice of hair removal which uses a small electric current to help destroy a hair follicle. This is done by inserting a fine probe into the follicle and running a current through it to destroy the root. A fully treated follicle will eventually be filled in by tissue beneath the epidermis, leaving behind no evidence of prior hair growth.
Electrolysis is the only method of permanent hair removal approved by the FDA.

Anyone with a need or desire for permanent hair removal! Examples are:
If you’re tired of spending time bleaching, tweezing, shaving, and waxing.
If you need treatment for hormone related effects from conditions such as PCOS.
If you need to remove unwanted hair for gender affirming care.
If you must prep for a surgical procedure which requires permanent removal of the hair in the surgical area.
If you suffer from problems caused by ingrown hairs or razor bumps

Yes!
Electrolysis works on all skin types and hair colors regardless of hair density. Unlike other treatment methods, electrolysis is effective in treating blonde, red, gray, and white hairs as well.
-
There may be temporary side effects. Expect minor swelling, redness, and slight skin irritation in the treated area. These side effects typically subside within one hour to a day depending on skin sensitivity.
-
Be sure that the area to be treated has been thoroughly cleaned and that the hair is trimmed short (the hair needs at least 24-48 hours of growth from a clean shave). More sensitive individuals may want to consider the application of a topical numbing cream about an hour before their session begins. Additional preparations may be discussed during consultation.

Fae’d Away schedules appointments in blocks of 15, 30, and 60 minute sessions. Treatments can be extended based on need and schedule availability.
-
I can safely treat any hair on the body that I can see. The only two areas that are unsafe to treat are the inside of the nose and ear canal. Electrologists are also legally unable to treat eyelashes, you must see a doctor for that service.
-
The number of sessions required for complete and permanent hair removal varies from person to person based on a number of factors such as,
Hair type
Density
Hair growth cycle
Adherence to recommended treatment schedule
Specific medical conditions
Sensitivity to treatment method
While not an exhaustive list, these are some of the factors that may effect the number of treatments required for 100% hair reduction. Regardless, multiple sessions will be required per active follicle in order to preserve the integrity of the epidermis. Depending on the circumstances, short maintenance sessions may also be required to address new hair growth in previously untreated hair follicles.
-
To see the best results in the shortest amount of time, it is recommended that you follow all of your electrologists instructions and individual treatment plan. This includes:
No waxing, tweezing, or plucking of hairs in the treatment area once you have begun electrolysis treatments.
Keeping to the treatment schedule tailored to provide you with the best results.
Adhering to pre and post-appointment instructions.
While I understand that life happens and circumstances may limit our options, only by following your individual treatment plan will you see the greatest results in the shortest period of time.

Laser hair removal is a form of semi-permanent hair reduction. It’s wonderful at reducing large areas of hair by around 80% of overall growth. The caveats are it’s only effective on areas with dark and densely growing hair, and it will never remove 100% of the overall hair growth.
Laser is ineffective on blonde, red, gray, and white hair, as well as areas with sparse growth. If attempted under inadequate conditions it can even cause new hair growth in the treatment area.
Electrolysis is effective under all growth conditions, and even when laser is used electrolysis is typically needed to finish the process. If possible, I recommend pursuing both treatment styles as needed and can help you determine the most time and cost effective course of action during a consultation.
-
The cost varies depending on the length of the session and the area being treated. Please check the services section for individual session cost breakdown.
-
It is common to feel a pinch while the follicle is being treated. Sensitivity to treatment can vary from client to client, the area being treated, and even day to day for the same individual.
I utilize state of the art equipment to ensure the greatest possible comfort available. For extra sensitive individuals, or for longer than average sessions, I recommend the application of a topical numbing cream an hour before a session begins.

Meet Your Electrologist
Hi there! My name is Alice Fae Scheuermann and I’d like to thank you for your interest in my services. I understand that choosing the right electrologist can be a daunting task. Trusting a stranger to understand the service they’re offering you and to implement it successfully can be scary.
I’ve been in your position. The online research, the comparisons, the budgeting, and then the hope that it’s all worth it. I’ve spent close to 200 hours on the table myself, with various electrologists, to various levels of success and frustration. That’s what motivated me to pursue a professional level education in electrology. I completed the fully accredited and certified 600 hour course from Berkowits School of Electrolysis in New York city in 2026, and am bringing my knowledge and developed skills back to Virginia in order to bring a better service to the local market.
I hope to help make your choice easier and I look forward to meeting and working with you
